The Mexican Revolution in the early 1900s caused the value of coins (pesos) to be lost, and the excess coins were melted down and made into rings. In the 1940s, biker club members who hung out on the Mexican border would wear these rings instead of brass knuckles, which were banned at the time, and fight, which is why they came to be called biker rings or duster rings. This is probably from the 1940s, with an Indian motif on the top and a fleur-de-lis on the side, making it more typical of this item. The coin silver and brass construction gives it a mannish look that is more typical of vintage items from this era.
