Beacon Blanket Company was founded in Massachusetts in 1904. Initially, they manufactured blankets from recycled yarn, but in 1925, they moved their factory to North Carolina, closer to the source of their cotton. They became extremely popular through their store brand in the 1930s. This is a 1940s ombré-labeled 100% cotton gown. The unique dyeing technique creates a beautiful gradation, resulting in a soft, natural texture from the fine-weave flannel fabric. (By the 1950s, looms that produced this fine weave were no longer in use, and rayon (acetate) was used instead, making this a rare piece from before that time.) The vintage-inspired Native American pattern and detailed piping and cording make this a rare piece of high quality. Considering its age, this piece is in excellent condition, and it can be fastened with buttons and worn like a coat. The tailored silhouette and patterning are roomy yet streamlined. As this is an old item, there may be occasional signs of aging. Please review the photos and understand the nature of vintage items before purchasing.
