The name in Japan is stadium jumper, but in the United States it is called Varsity / Lettermans.
The custom of wearing patches (lettered) is said to have started at Harvard University, and is still awarded to athletes with excellent results and adopted by strong schools.
This is a precious piece from the 1950s.
A rare type in which the best time to see and the leather on the sleeves are all black, and the cotton ribs are similar and modern.
