Cowichan knitting is a traditional knitting technique from Vancouver Island, Canada, combining European textiles and indigenous traditions to create distinctive items.
It peaked around the 1950s and became popular with many manufacturers outside Canada producing it with pop patterns.
This is an impressive design with a totem pole on the front, a thunderbird on the pocket, and a Native American ethnic pattern woven on both shoulders with a whale pattern.
It uses wool yarn with a relatively light texture, and the soft knitting gives it a natural look.
