It is said that spoon rings began in the 17th century when servants of aristocrats could not afford wedding rings and stole their masters cutlery to make them. In the 1960s, hippies discovered them and revived them. Many of them are from long-established American silverware manufacturers that began in the 19th century, and the Oneida Community began producing silverware in an Amish-like community in the 19th century and became a major American manufacturer. The key features are the heavy body, simple design, minimalist taste, and fish design. The texture may be 925, but it is probably silver plated, which is often used in antiques.
